Are you Mercury? Those who know me well, know that I am a bit more than just a fan of Mythology- especially Roman, Greek, Norse and Egyptian. You don’t have to believe in their mythical gods to like them, it’s like digging the X-Men. I’m a particular fan of Roman mythology, and one of my favourite “characters” is Mercury – the winged messenger and patron god of wealth and poetry, among other things. Having a voice that people listen to- a voice that can influence life, must be awesome! Read on for tips about how to have your voice heard in the job market.
"Hiring Manager" is not a job title; it's a job function that forms part of the responsibilities a line manager has. The hiring manager might be a PMO Manager that needs to recruit a Project Manager. The last thing a PMO Manager wants to spend countless hours on is recruitment, as he/she has project deliverables that are due, so the less time he/she has to spend on recruitment, and the easier it is made for him/her, the better. One way to make it easier for him/her is to send him/her a CV that'll show him/her why you need to be brought in for an interview.
When deciding to immigrate to a new country, it’s a big step! But you don’t need me to tell you that, you already know it, you’re living and breathing it as I type. A candidate that really stands above the crowd is one who understands their market value and what they can bring to table of potential employers. So with that in mind, how does one go about firstly determining their value as a business asset and secondly, ensuring they land the job they are after? Like any business decision, it all comes down to research and market analysis.
The level of success that job hunters achieve is determined by the effort they put in, the passion they employ while hunting and the methods they use to find opportunities, but what all job hunters have in common is the fact that they all start off as “a one man team”. Some quickly realize that they need to team up with others in the market, or leverage off their network to find out what’s going on in the market. We at Jobzdojo believe that crowdsourcing is the answer, but not necessarily in the traditional sense. We look at it more from a “Monkeysphere” point of view.
How do you actually go about attracting these people to you and what will make you stand out among your peers? Well, as a head-hunter myself (the recruiter kind), I’m here to tell you what you need to do to catch our eye and make you too attractive to overlook. It all comes down to three main things, social media, industry activity and market reputation.
It’s understandable to not know where to look or how to search online for companies when you don’t know any of them by name. People usually end up asking for suggestions and then work from there, but for me this is also a very short road to travel because before long they end up having to ask for more suggestions. However, there is an easier solution to finding your next company, and that is simply to look for your next boss.
