Components That Make Up a Successful CV
Writing a successful professional CV is not rocket science; you could actually follow a simple "recipe" and end up with a CV that opens many doors. Remember that a CV doesn't get you a job, it's designed to get you an interview. Here are 5 components that make up a successful CV:
Knowing as much as you can about the company, its staff and the likely activities and/or project that they have on the go, will help you relate better to the job you are applying for. It shows initiative and professionalism. When you describe projects that you've worked on or key achievements that you've had, try to match it with projects that they are undertaking and key achievements that the company could relate to.
It's tempting to show off your grasp of the English language by acting like a cracked the Lexicon, but it's always better to stick to the common vernacular, as it comes across more social and conversational, which most people will relate to. So, in other words, run-of-the-mill English is tops.
Project-related experience / key achievements:
If you've done your research right, you'll know of projects a company is undertaking and you can list your projects that relate to that. This is also a good opportunity to describe an issue that came up in the project and how you resolved it.
List 6 to 8 key skills:
Think long and hard before listing your skills. The ones you list should be pertinent to the role and should be skills that make you great at your job.
All paragraphs should have no more than 3 to 4 lines- any more than that and the reader might skip over the information.
